Common or Broadleaf plantain (Plantago major).  Is edible, and has more iron than spinach.  I use plantain for it antiseptic properties more than anything.  Once while being far to laissez faire about safety I buried a hatchet in my left knee before a program.  I stuffed the wound full of chewed plantain leaves then wrapped my bandanna snugly ’round my leg and did the program.  Four hours later I was in the ER getting 7 stitches.  When the doctor poured peroxide on the wound it did not bubble at all.  Nature thinks of everything…

I am indeed a naturalist, and it is indeed freaking awesome. You become a good naturalist by majoring in a good natural resources program, but you cannot specialize. Learn as much as you can about as many topics as you can. I get paid to go hiking, bird watching, canoeing, camping, do nature journaling, paint with watercolors, cut down trees, start forest and prairie burns, teach survival classes, you know… normal work stuff…
